Energy issues, like where it is derived from, its use and disposal, affect a number of areas including economic growth, air pollution and climate change. In light of the importance and complexities of the debate around our ‘energy mix’, what it should be and why, Civic Exchange started an Energy Seminar Series in 2006. The aim was to provide Hong Kong with a good level of understanding about local and regional energy issues in order to stimulate broader discussion about energy sources - from their geopolitical and environmental implications, short and long term supply and transportation, to investment considerations and policy drivers. Following the incident at Fukushima in 2011, Civic Exchange notised the urgent need to study more the different faces of nuclear power, hoping to increase our understanding and shape the breadth and depth of public policy debate.

In addition to nuclear power, Civic Exchange is also conducting research focusing on building efficiency, Guandong's hydropower and emissions trading.
